The first turn of the campaign saw Mordor act with priority. As Mordor won the priority roll, they will move first for the next four Play Phase turns, keeping Gondor on their heels surely...
As Mordor's armies made ready to move, Gothmog's horde pounced on the West side of Osgiliath. Faramir's army, outnumbered 3 to 5 (point-wise) will have to attempt to stem the tide, as they resolved to stand and fight! The Witch King's horde moved as far as it could toward Osgiliath to back up Gothmog's orcs there. It will not be until the next Play Phase turn that the Witch King will arrive there though, so that horde will not take part in Gothmog's attack.
The Easterlings to the north made for the crossing at Cair Andros. After one full move they are still one Play Phase move away, but their presence surely hangs heavily on the minds of the Gondorians defending Cair Andros. The Haradrim to the south made their way north on their long slow journey. They have another three turns until they can set foot in the Pelennor.
Denethor, only able to react to the onslaught of Mordor, rallied his forces to Minas Tirith. The defenders of Cair Andros fled their walls and made their way accross the open fields of Gondor toward their Stuard's call. Still a few Play Phase turns away, they promise to bring aid to the beleagured defenders of the Pelennor.
Faramir's army, now locked in battle with the hordes of orcs that cross the river cannot move, and so dig in and ready for the assault (what happened? Check out the Battle Report here). As the situation for Gondor worsens, both Denethor's defenders of Minas Tirith and Gandalf and Pippen remained behind the city walls.
The hour grows later, the skies grow darker, and the orcs of Mordor begin to pour into Gondor... The only battle initiated during this Play Phase was the battle for Osgiliath, pitting Gothmog's horde against Faramir's defenders of Osgiliath. See below for the outcome of the battle.
Faramir was felled during the battle by the blade of Gothmog. Unfortunately for him, fate was not kind. The hero aftermath roll for Faramir came up a 1, meaning Faramir was permanently lost. Also, Gothmog refused to envoke the 'Heroes as Prisoners' rule, which would have saved Faramir from death at least, and so Faramir is officially dead. His body committed to the Anduin as his brother's was before him.
The battles saw no less than nine Warriors of Minas Tirith fall to the weapons of the Orcs. For the aftermath roll, a 3 was the outcome, meaning only one in three troops return to the army. Farmir's army has been renamed Damrod's army, is made up of only 180 points worth of troops, and has the following list:
