The same old desk in a new place. It's also quite a bit tidier! Well, for now anyway; my plan is to keep it clean, but sometimes the best laid plans don't work out...

After finishing the Undead Project I had to sit down and clean my desk and painting space... there was stuff piled up on stuff that had been there for months and I was quickly losing control. After a few hours I cleaned it all up, organized a lot of it, and got rid of an old 'portable' desk that was covered in junk and not used for years... after all that, my desk looks marginally cleaner... Oh well!

My workbench shelf organization... and three hopeless figs... not yet from painted by Neldoreth - An Hour of Wolves & Shattered Shields

As you can see, my WIP shelf has three figs with finished skin, but nothing else even blocked out... This typically spells doom for me; it's not blocked out because I can't decide on a scheme for them. Typically they should take about 1.5 years before I get around to them... But perhaps this time I'll finish them next week? I'd give that pretty long odds :)

Work in progress - DBA camps coming out of my ears! All of them to be from painted by Neldoreth - An Hour of Wolves & Shattered Shields

Work in progress - DBA camps coming out of my ears! All of them to be  -  Posted: September 29, 2010
I built a few DBA camps to sell recently and it spawned a number of commissions. I like commission because there is less chance involved in selling them! The result is that my desk is currently overflowing with camps in progress. I hope to have them all finished by late this week though... The camps are (1) Hunnic yurt camp, (2,3) Ancient Spanish camps based on Castro de Barona, (4,5) A couple of Islamic gateways, good for pretty much all of the Muslim conquest, (6, 7, 13) Late Roman, Gothic, or early medieval wooden palisaded forts, good for a whole schwack or armies and one is for me and one is a prize, the other is for sale, (8) a Thracian hill top fort camp, (9, 11) recently made and already sold medieval tower camps, and finally (10) my late Roman or Gothic tower camps for a prize in my Visigothic Romance tournament... They've been pretty fun so far! Stay tuned for finished shots...

Work in progress - Warhammer Empire figs for HotT, 15mm Irish women, etc, etc... from painted by Neldoreth - An Hour of Wolves & Shattered Shields

Here's my WIP shelf, which is quickly getting out of control... (1) some Perry French Napoleonic era line infantry that have been waiting for paint for months - French uniforms are insane! (2) Some Trey Corbies female Irish figs waiting for some attention. (3) The first two elements of my HotT-Hammer Empire army. I am not sure when I'll get around to them, but they were fun to prep! (4) Two Spanish anarchist characters that I bought on a whim. They are 28mm and I will likely never use them for gaming, but they're cool! (5) A female floating with crows flying around her. It's a great fig, but I am having trouble with the colour scheme to be honest. You can actually see her on my WIP shelf in the December 2009 desk shot :) In fact, all of these figs are here still because of the colour scheme issue... Whenever I haven't decided on a colour scheme, my progress slows WAY down...

Since my WIP shelf is currently overflowing, I had to put some figs on my transient desk area... It's a mess. I should really take some time to clean it. In the foreground, from left to right, there's a leaopard character for a druid player for my D&D action. An old GW goblin that I have been planning to paint just for fun for about 100 years, a ranger-type Reaper miniature, and a Reaper Pathfinder figure that I bought because I just liked it. Also, you see the LotR troll there with the flaming sword. I won that in a GW store painting contest, and it was already painted. It's out because I dropped my 'monster' box and had to repair it along with a number of other monster-sized figures :(

Just after putting together the first six elements for my Mongol Project this desk shot shows a cleanish desk for me! I really need to take some time to clean it properly :)

How can something seem like yesterday, yet also seem like so long ago at the same time? This picture was taken in February 2010. I took this when I was getting ready to take some photos of the elven rogue there and noticed how clearly the figure looked through the magnifying lense... and also how magnified... I never usully see the figures through that lense at any distance...

December 2009 was when this one was taken. So much crap going on here... On top of the miniature hobby, I had just gotten into the reenactment deal... Tablet weaving is fun though!

Note the Harry Potter audio book... Audio books have become an integral part of my painting life... I used to 'watch' movies, only ever hearing them, which sucked since movies were made to be watched... I used to listen to music, but how many times can you listen to the same albums? So, audio books have kept me going! I have listened to nearly 100 since I started listening to them... Good times!

This one was taken in June 2009. It is so far back I barely remember it! At the time I was painting L.A. Persians and Bretonnians... And that damn troll... Will I ever paint it?

A picture of my painting desk in image taking mode. Believe it or not, the lights in the room are on, and quite bright. But the lamp lights are so bright that they make the rest of the room look dark in the picture! Find the picture of the Viking Shield Maiden here.

This one was actually taken in May 2009, but posted in June, so you'll see some recently finished projects on the desk there...

A picture of my picture set up. It is taken from the perspective that I use to actually take pictures of figures... I had to do a wide shot for this image (as opposed to the normal closer shots) in order to make sure that all of the figs were in the picture and had the background behind them. This image was also used to generate the image of the first half of my Granada force.

This is my picture-taking setup. When I put this desk scheme together in 2007 I did it with the purpose of streamlining the picture taking process. The ledge in front of the shelves there is designed to give room for figs, the terrain floor, and the background image. Using two 100W bulbs in my two desk lamps provides the needed light, and blammo! Check out the miniatures that I took a picture of here

Here is a close up of my tidy portable painting surface! Sure, it looks untidy, but compare it to the previous close up of my painting desk and you will see the differences! I even have room for figs on it, as you can see the skeleton riders on the right of the picture! I blame the untidy look on the paper towels and the plastic painting palettes there!

The full view of my working area, in all its untidy glory. The permanent part is on top of the elevated mini shelf there. You can see some 15mm greens against a gray backdrop, ready to be photographed :) As well as a growing collection of craft paints on the right... My chess clock to time my progress on the left, and all the figs in the process of being painted on the shelf on the right. On the desktop itself, you can see my portable working area. It's still a bit cluttered, but I recently cleaned it up so it is much more tidy that it could be!

In August 2007 I decided that my computer desk was no longer needed. I have a laptop, I no longer used my desktop (it was a c. 1998 G3 beige Mac...). So, I carted it off to the computer recycling, gave the 17 inch CRT monitors away and built this little shelf. I barely had enough paints to justify it to be honest, so the right side has become a miniature staging area! And, thankfully, the kids steer clear of it as it is sorta out of the way.

This image was taken in November 2006, and it looks essentially the same as my current desk in 2009. What you are looking at is my portable working surface. because of the kids, I have to be able to put way my painting desk. So, I can pick this up and put it high on a shelf, or in a closet. So, I tend to pile things onto it... And here you can see just how out of control things have gotten :)
