The detail on this figure is so high... it's such a jumble. For this one I started doing gradient and blending. I started with dark, then put up two shades, and then blending. But about half was through I decided just to drybrush those layers on instead and then do a glaze of the darker shade on the lower areas. It saved A LOT of time, but you can see here the dustier-looking parts look different from the smooth blended parts.
