The unpainted pile dwindles... slowly!
June 28th, 2010 I have realized that the best way to shrink the unpainted pile is to sell figs :) Large groups of them preferably! Unfortunately, I have already gotten rid of everything I didn't really want... So, if I get rid of more stuff it will be from the stuff I want but likely won't paint category, which is a lot harder to do :) 
Up and down... but mostly up? In any case, the painting still takes it (somewhat minor) toll on the unpainted pile. In early May I got up to 1032 figures, thankfully I am back down again, and I don't see the need to purchase anything new soon... but perhaps sooner than I would like? I really want to bring some Mongols to Fallcon, and I don't have them yet :) I plan to buy Navwar figs for the Mongols... and since Navwar also sells the Granadines I really wanted, I may as well buy them at the same time? Does anyone else have this problem? ;)

More and more.... and even more...
May 12th, 2010 This is pretty big trouble for me! I just recently got a crapload of figures that I ordered... They were all ordered in during my euphoria of getting rid of some lead that I wasn't going to paint. It's a dangerous place! I also got around to adding some figures that I got for free from others who were getting rid of unpainted figs! In any case, it's interesting to note that I am up over 1000 again, and that my collection of Warhammer figures is on the rise as well! It's insanity!

Shedding lead!
March 22nd, 2010 After getting rid of two DBA armies that I wasn't all that happy with, I have now 16% fewer figs than I had at the beginning of this year, giving me a current total of 771! I am happy to see the drop to be honest. The two armies that I got rid of were ones that I wasn't all that interested in painting... Both had very low pose variation: the knights for both were a single pose, and they were both mostly knight armies! They went to good homes, and I'm happy for it. I also painted a crapload of figs as well, and I'm almost down to autumn 2008 numbers again, as you can see from the graph. 
Look at that drop! The big drops/rises are due to selling/purchasing unpainted lead. The problem is of course that I plan to make a large purchase in the near future... I will get about 100+ Chinese Warring States figs in the next little while, so I had to get rid of and paint some figs before I could justify getting more :) At this point, I think I'm there... Now it's just a matter of raising the funds! Anyone want some DBA camps? ;)

Finally I have negative growth!
March 11th, 2010 Having sold an unpainted 15mm DBA army, and painted a few extras, my total is now at 852! Woo hoo! (Un)Fortunately, I just ordered a crapload of 28mm Warring States Chinese from Renegade miniatures, so, likely, this number will go up again soon enough!

Minimum growth!
February 17th, 2009 Second update of the unpainted variety this year, and things are looking up... That is, my unpainted total is up! Honestly, it's not my fault! I have only purchased three figures this year, with two already painted! I guess that's 1/3, which is pretty bad... but I digress. I have received a shipment from some companies that I do contra deals with (free figs for images of the painted figs) and that is where the increase has come from. Technically I should be about 20 figures lower than I was at the start of the year! But, we'll soon sort that out anyway! So, the current total is 910, which is 2 more figs than the start of the year, making up a 0.2% growth...

Another year...
January 4th, 2009 Well, another year has gone by... Time flies! This time last year I was painting undead and ancient Brits in 15mm... And I am still basically into the same projects: Fantasy Hordes of the Things and 15mm DBA. But I've also adopted 28mm DBA, as well as some very late 2009 projects including Spanish Civil War in 20mm and some 28mm Russian Civil war... 
The wrap up for 2009, the above graph represents the last half of 2008 to present. The large drops are sales, the small, incremental drops are due to painting... What does 2010 have in store? More incremental drops followed by drastic rises? We'll see! Overall, I have more miniatures than I did last year at this time! Despite my resolve not to purchase too many figures! My total at the moment is 908, and the percentage growth between last year at this time 9.7%, which translates to 80 miniatures. 80 new miniatures! Oh well, maybe this year I will shrink the unpainted backlog!

Ups, downs, all arounds...
December 29th, 2009 I sold off about 70 lead vikings from Old Glory. To be honest, I never really liked the figures. They did paint up pretty well, and the poses were not completely terrible, but they never had the flavour that I wanted in my vikings. They were also lead, which is trouble for my orally-fixated children ;) So, they're gone! To replace them I got a whole schwack of 20mm moderns: Spanish Civil War! It will be my first anarchist army, which I am looking forward to putting together! So, going into 2010 I have 923 unpainted figures, which is a 11.5% increase, which means that I have about 95 more figs than I did last year :) BAH! 
At least I am below 1000? Oh, what happened in January 2009 anyway? In the coming year, my plan is to stop buying miniatures... Oh yeah, everyone says that every year, I know! But still, I have been looking critically at consumerism lately. I realized that if one wants to 'hang out' with friends there are basically no choices outside of stores or shops of some sort. Everything I do is based around consuming, and I am tired of it! How many miniatures (and other crap for that matter) can I sit on and still live with myself? Probably a lot more than I currently have ;) But I don't want to find out! I have droves of figs waiting for paint and I want to get to them before I buy more... Of course, resolutions are made to be broken... until next year!

More and more unpainted figs...
December 1st, 2009 So, as it happens, I came accross a pack of Corsairs from Lord of the Rings that had yet to be catalogued... That's 24 figs! I also picked up some Russian Partisans from Copplestone Castings for some Russian Civil War, and maybe even WWII action. Partisans are partisans, right? What's 25 years anyway ;) I painted quite a few figs as well... From November 10th I painted 28 figs, mostly 15mm. In any case, that brings me back up to 977, which brings my growth for the year back up to 18%. Oh well!

November 10th, 2009 Well, I have continued to reduce the number of unpainted figures I have! It's great news, but I've realized that buying new stuff is part of the hobby... I mean, salivating over new figures, obsessing over new projects, and day dreaming about future armies is really a big part of it... So I wonder if I should start getting rid of stuff now, and accept that I will buy new stuff, or have an upper unpainted limit? Like say 500, so that I have to paint down to 400 before I can get more? Anyway, my current total is 961, which is 16.1% growth from the beginning of the year!

The unpainted hordes dwindle!
October 29th, 2009 Painted a whole schwack of figs, and haven't received anything since I got those Wargames Factory Romans... So, I realized something... I will never paint all of my figs... I mean, I might come back to the unpainted hordes eventually, here and there, like I have in the past, but how likely is it? So, I may go through the stuff I have and get rid of stuff that I won't paint, or that I could replace for a reasonable price in the distant future if I need to... Perhaps my 28mm Viking hordes, listed under 28mm Dark Ages in the table need to go... Along with their painted counterparts perhaps? We'll see :) Anyway, now I'm down to 983 unpainted figs!

The end is near? Not quite!
October 13th, 2009 Well, I went over 1000 unpainted figures since the last update... It so happened that I recieved more great figs from Khurasan miniatures, an entire Kushan army in fact. I also recieved enough figs plus extras for a Marian Roman DBA army in 28mm from Wargames Factory. That pushed me up over 1000. I gave away some figs, painted like a madman (finished my DBA Anglo-Danish army), and managed to bring it back down (just) under 1000 to 998! 
Notice how it is happily going down in early September before it shoots up in A good buddy recently helped me come to terms with my unpainted miniatures... Basically he described the Dead Sea effect: You use the good stuff and leave the not so good stuff. With the Dead Sea, the water evaporates, leaving the salt... and more and more salt... I explained that I like salt at least as much as I like water, and he said that wasn't the point :) Basically, I paint the stuff I want to paint and leave the rest behind... I will never paint it all. He's basically correct, but I have gone back to old stuff more than a few times, and been happy to have it. Of course, I don't need any more figs, so I am going to try to refrain from purchasing anything for the rest of the year... Let's see how that goes! For those interested, my unpainted miniatures have now seen an approximate 21% growth from the beginning of the year!

September 16th, 2009 I painted up a handful of figs over the last few days! Good stuff, now I am only at 928 unpainted figs in total! Shouldn't be long now ;)

More miniatures!
September 10th, 2009 Well... I just got a big shipment from Khurasan (well, some I am only inventorying just now). Fantastic figs, but they have bumped my miniatures total up to 943. 
The line looks a lot like a sine curve... at least before this update :) This time some more Franks, specifically some Norman light horse and cavalry, and some Frank figures that will allow me to morph my 15mm Norman DBA army to a IV/7 early crusader and even a IV/4a fuedal French, which is very cool! My plan is to use the same stand of pilgrims/peasants as the 5Wb option of the crusaders and the 7Hd option of the fuedal French! So, how can I deal with having so many unpainted figures? Well, thanks to Tim's fantastic advice I might not die of worry of whether or not I will ever get out of this pool of miniatures that I am drowning in! Time to get to work!

Persians complete!
September 1st, 2009 I finally finished those damn Medieval Persians. In spite of that, I have a number of them left over thanks to the number of figures per pack... Not sure if I will ever paint them, but hey, what can you do? They may come in handy someday, right? My new total of unpainted figures is a mere 881! I'm almost done ;) But seriously, at least I am below 900 right? So, for all those interested, between January 1, 2009 and today, eight months later, the percentage change in the number of unpainted figures I have is 2.9%. That is, the number of unpainted figures I have now are 2.9% higher than they were at the beginning of the year! Dammit! I am going to try to make that into a negative number by the end of December... I have some more figs coming though... Some Khurasan Franks and a whole Patrician Roman DBA army :) But I think that should be it for the rest of the year (I know, famous last words...).

More Persians painted!
August 24th, 2009 Still plugging away at those Medieval Persians. I painted another 15 of them... 15 figures in a single week! I am getting more and more bold I think :) Only 893 more figures to paint, and again I am below 900, although, likely not for long! Not to mention all those that need a re-paint ;)

August 17th, 2009 Not much change really, but figured I would update anyway... I painted up 9 figures for my Medieval Persians. It's been a slow month so far :) Still, that's 9 less figures that I have left to paint!!

Already another update!
August 3rd, 2009 I removed all of the 15mm Normans and Persians that I have painted recently, and the unpainted number is down to a more respectable 917. It's still a hell of a lot of figures, but oh well! It's fun! I am really excited to paint the 15mm armies that I have, including the Medieval Persians and the others that I have! Stay tuned! 
It seems that I can't really get below the 800 mark. And, even though my mini purchases have been relatively small lately, they're still too much to allow me to get the unpainted number down. So, I might have to start selling off a whole schwack of stuff! But what to sell? I have plans for pretty much everything I have... Plans that likely will never make the light of day, but plans none-the-less! Oh well!

More unpainted updates!
August 3rd, 2009 All right. So, name me one mini-painting blog that hasn't done a complete about face at some point or another? That's right, I've decided to come back to this. It's fun to keep updated on what I have and what I have painted and not yet painted :) Well, at least it seems that way now :) I will post here as it pleases me, or not. Any updates to this will be reported on the main blog. So, this week I can report that I now have 956 unpainted figs, which is roughly 100 more than I had the last time I posted :) The problem is that I picked up about three DBA armies in 15mm recently. So many figs in any army... But really, nothing compared to three WAB or Warmaster ancients armies :)

No more unpainted updates!
July 30th, 2009 So, what happened to this part of the Website anyway? I had to abandon it... What started happening was that I quickly became obsessed with reducing my backlog, and so I started painting for that reason... Essentially it removed the intrinsic enjoyment of painting and replaced it with an extrinsic motivator based on reducing the backlog. I chose not to paint something I wanted to paint and to paint something that would reduce the backlog on more than a few occasions and started hating the whole process... So, I dropped the count, and didn't even keep track of purchases and numbers of figs painted. So, sorry to all of you who have been watching this section with keen interest; it won't be updated any longer. More and more new figs!
January 26th, 2009 The total has gone up again, this time by six measely miniatures to 857. I picked up more Lord of the Rings figs! Why? Well, I have been playing that game again thanks to Tim in Saskatoon for hooking me up with another keen player! Also, GW is supposed to lose their Lord of the Rings license at the end of this year, so pick'em up while you can! Anyway, I hope to get back to painting unpainted figs again soon, as those pesky undead are almost done!

All that work and it's undone by three shipments!
January 13st, 2009 I have to accept the blame. 851 miniatures! My recent Hordes of the Things undead army somehow inspired me to buy more Warhammer Fantasy figures! This time 24 Bretonnian figs from the 4th (?) edition starter set that pitted the Bretonnians against the Lizardmen. Oh well, they are spiffy medi-eval looking figs :) The other stuff that added to the number was the Xyston Aitolians and Late Persians that recently arrived. I ordered them in August, so it shouldn't have surprised me :) Oh well... All that hard work over the last six months has been *almost* completely undone! But I vow never to break 900 again.... That being said... Games Workshop loses their Lord of the Rings license in 2010, which means that I have to finish off collecting the figs I really, really want from them before they disappear! Corsairs, Corsair Captain (Pete himself), Morannon Orcs, and Rangers of Middle-earth... I also want some various characters, like Madril and whatnot... Not sure if I will ever get these, especially if I don't get back into playing Lord of the Rings again!

Much change... and a new 15mm army!
November 1st, 2008 It's been a crazy month for miniatures for me this past month... I ended up doing a giant trade for tonnes of Necromunda and Starship troopers figs, in return I handed over droves of fantasy figs! I also painted up US VietNam figs and some of those Scots-Irish. I would have been way down for figs, but then I picked up some figs this past weekend! Why? So, another 37 15mm ancients, Skythians this time. Oh well... So, that puts me at a total of 752 unpainted figs. 
Also, I put together this fancy-schmancy trending graph for my unpainted figs! All of the little changes (the close together dots) are drops due to painting. The big drops are drops due to selling. At the moment, I can't seem to get too far away from 750 figs. My average for the period there is 800 figs, with a max of 904 and a min of 723. The percentage change for the period is -12%, meaning that I have gone down in unpainted minis by 12% in the last four (ish) months. Not too bad, but I am going to have to start setting goals for myself that will help me reduce this number :)

Scots-Irish horde!
September 30th, 2008 Well, with the Samurai done, I had no 15mm DBA army left unpainted! It lasted more than a few days, until my latest DBA army showed up! Blamo, and extra 38 figs unpainted! It's a Scots-Irish army from Essex, and I am already starting on that one!@ I also painted four Viet Nam era US figs, and a helicopter! That gives me a total of 757 unpainted miniatures! Will it ever end?

September 15th, 2008 With the finishing of my Samurai, I am now down to 723 figs unpainted! Not bad... Unfortunately, I ordered a few more 15mm armies! Nooo! Well, I had none left unpainted! Painted some Samurai, sold some figs!
September 2nd, 2008 It's been a while since i updated this! Figured it was about time! Well, I sold off my Feudal Spanish army from Museum Miniatures. To be honest, I wasn't all that happy with it. The figs were nice, but the variation wasn't all that good! The range has variation, but my DBA army pack didn't! Not sure why... Anyway, aside from that I've painted a handful (or four) of Samurai (Mideval 15mm) figs. Now I am down to only 753 figs!

August 13th, 2008 Six more Dark Age Russians, and I painted that one Reaper fig! Wooo! At least I painted it right away, as opposed to putting it away and forgetting about it for three years... Anyway, I am now down to a record low of 811!

Reaper kills me!
August 7th, 2008 Egads! I bought another fig! This one is a single 28mm reaper fantasy fig. I should have it painted by next Thursday, since I bought it for a D&D session that is happening then :) I never used to be all that keen on Reaper figs (I think it has to do with Sandra Gerrity's older stuff), but now they are one of my favourite manufacturers! If only they weren't so damn big! Anyway, new total is 818.

July 24th, 2008 I realized that I could build an entire second DBA army from my Samurai after a buddy asked me to check it out for him! When I found out it did, blamo, he bought them and now I am lighter by over 50 15mm samurai! Only 829 figs to go!

A count of all my unpainted figs!
July 2nd, 2008 After digging up all of the unpainted figs I could find in my house and counting them I decided to put this little section of the site together. Since this is basically a blog about my miniature hobby, I figured I might as well include it! So, in total I have 855 unpainted figs. Mostly they are from GW's Lord of the Rings line... I blame those cheap plastic box sets! But also there are a lot of 28mm dark age vikings too :) Anyway, I will keep this updated as I purchase more and hopefully paint the backlog... So, check out the details below!
